South Africa will join other countries across the globe in hosting the 16th #IsraeliApartheidWeek this year between the 16th and 21st of March 2020. “Africa Against Bantustans” is this year’s South African and continental theme for #IsraeliApartheidWeek. The theme was chosen following the Chairperson of the African Union, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s, characterision of the US Donald Trump Israel deal for Palestine as akin to the Bantustan deal that Apartheid South Africa devised for Black South Africans during Apartheid. #IsraeliApartheidWeek (IAW) is an international series of self-organized rallies, protests, lectures, cultural performances, concerts, sports events, films and workshops held annually in over 250 cities, communities and campuses across the globe. #IsraeliApartheidWeek has previously hosted the former Chairperson of the African Union, National Speakers of Parliament, South Africa’s former President as well as several Cabinet Ministers, Mayors, Members of Parliament, artists, sports people as well as well-known musicians, comedians and entertainers. #IsraeliApartheidWeek is endorsed by more than 110 African and South African based organisations, trade unions, embassies, youth movements and other groups including the continents oldest liberation movement, the continent’s largest student movement and some of the continent’s largest trade unions.

OVER 50 FORMER EUROPEAN PRIME MINISTERS AND LEADERS JOIN RAMAPHOSA’S CONDEMNATION OF TRUMP’S ISRAEL “APARTHEID” DEAL

African Union Chairperson and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s comparison between the Israeli Trump deal and that of Apartheid was echoed this week by 50 former European Prime Ministers and Ministers.
Former Swedish prime minister Ingvar Carlsson; former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland; former Irish prime minister John Bruton; former French prime minister and foreign minister Dominique de Villepin; Former German foreign minister and vice-chancellor Sigmar Gabriel; former United Kingdom foreign secretary Jack Straw; former NATO secretary-general Javier Solana; and former Irish president Mary Robinson, were among 50 European leaders who this week signed a letter condemning the Trump “Apartheid” deal. Other signatories included former ministers or leaders of Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Luxembourg, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
