Attention: OGP Steering Committee and Support Unit We are writing to you as PASSOP (People Against Suffering Oppression and Poverty). We are a civil society non-governmental and non-profit organisation based in South Africa that has been involved with the OGP at both a national and international level.
The Israeli-Palestine issue is an important issue that is of great significance to us particularly given the history of apartheid in South Africa. We have been involved in various campaigns that oppose the illegal Israel occupation of Palestinian land and we advocate for the right of self-determination and democratic rights for Palestinians. This is consistent with our commitment to a society that is devoid of injustice, prejudice and discrimination; where people are free, their democratic rights are protected and diversity is celebrated.
As PASSOP we are concerned about the treatment of Israeli based civil society organisations by the Israeli government and the safety of activists. Some of the concerns are raised in the letter from AIC (Alternative Information Centre) attached and we are supporting this letter of complaint and trust that necessary and appropriate action will be taken by the OGP steering committee. AIC is aware that we are submitting this letter in support of its complaint, particularly given our involvement in the OGP.
We thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
